This is meant to help people who are interested in or new to engineer boots get some real suggestions instead of getting their advice from random fashion sites who just look up “engineer boots” on Google and pick the most obvious and readily available options. To be clear, this is just my list and it isn’t meant to be some definite, inarguable list. Even then, I have complaints with some of the others. In fact, I would actually say that only 8, maybe 9 of the boots on this list are actually well designed. This style of boot is one of, if not the most difficult to design properly.

I currently own 6 pairs of them, have owned a total of eight pairs, and have tried on and handled quite a few more. Though there are other pull-on style boots like the Chelsea, side-zip and cowboy, but the buckled ankle strap gives the engineer boot its distinct look. Search "biker boot" and it's likely to pull up droves of engineer boots. The likes of Marlon Brando would help popularize the pull-on in biker circles and is how most people associate the boots today. The workwear design joined the tall pull-on style of horse riding boots with the supportive arch and sole of a work boot and would move from feeding coal to shifting gears on motorcycles. A buckled ankle strap distinguishes this style from other pull-on boots.
